It’s cheaper to buy carbon credits than to buy a prius if you’re worried about CO2.

Hybrids don’t save money over existing cars like the corolla and civic. Only after driving 200,000 miles with gas at around $3.00 a gallon do you see any real savings. As for saving the enviroment, you can just buy carbon credits. Much cheaper than buying a prius.

Maybe you shouldn’t sit so close to your end of the screen :P

You’ve done your research well. unlike this guy in the video…

jed510 June 15, 2009 at 2:44 am

hybrids are pieces of shit

Favouritepatmos June 18, 2009 at 5:47 am

Don’t listen to that silly cluck!!!

f1nuts June 18, 2009 at 3:05 pm

Take it back or at least have a full diagnostic done on that vehicle… there’s something wrong with it.

f1nuts June 20, 2009 at 11:32 am

Purely electric vehicles, even if their power comes 100% from a coal fire electric station, will get the rough equivalent of 140miles per gallon! This boy needs to do a little research.

bxoxromance June 20, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Great video man.

Does this dim wit even realize that the EPA test were revised in 2007 and that all car fuel consumption #’s dropped?
Does he realize the Sudbury open pit mine has been open for 100years?
Does he know nickel is used in the production
of all cars?
Does this boy know that this is the first step only and that the batteries will be lithium in the next generation of Hybrids?
Is he unaware that Prius production has been relentlessly improved since moving to the U.S.?
God, I could go on and on.

hephaestus88 June 24, 2009 at 8:22 am

in fact it is more efficient to burn coal in a power plant to charge your EV (which has about 80-90% efficiency) and travel than internal combustion engines ( generally about 20%, 30% in some recent diesel models in Europe)

I don’t know much about the environmental effects of batteries though.

Exult June 26, 2009 at 8:31 pm

apparently the pollution caused from making hybrid cars is equivalent to driving a hummer nonstop for 200 years, and the battery will become undealable toxic waste, I salute you on trying to get the truth out

trident3b June 27, 2009 at 5:22 am

08:59, “Hybrid cars, nothing about them is true”. I get the general gist, but I must emphasize that you are referring to MILD hybrids, the crap that exists now. With mild hybrids your comment is correct, but most wrong with regard to FULL hybrids in the future (approx next 10 years). They will (prototypes are) a different animal. Wait and see. I can’t say more right now.

Shroomalator June 27, 2009 at 6:32 am

Did you know it is recomended to switch the Hybrid battery out every 25,000 miles? Well that wouldn’t be so bad, except it costs $12,000 to replace the Hybrid battery.

Secondly, The Hybrid cars use a Nickel Alkaline batteries. The Nickel is processed into Nickel Alkaline at the INCO Nickel Smelter superstack, Sudbury Ontario, Canada.
The process releases Methane, Sulfer-dioxide and nitric-oxylate.

The Production of Hybrid cars is far more enviromentaly unfriendly than a Hummer.

Smart kid, keep it up

lancerevo1994 June 30, 2009 at 1:58 am

I’ve been saying that all along! But do people listen? Of course not.

trident3b July 1, 2009 at 12:17 am

fair enough, point taken, problem is you’re taking numbers from a website claim and a video you mention. It is generally accepted in professional circles that the current MILD hybrids still can’t beat diesels for fuel efficiency. You will be right re CO2, the prius will kick out a little less CO2 when in electric mode, these things are often mixed up. We are trying to get CO2 down and fuel usage down. All current MILD hybrids can’t beat diesels in terms of fuel consumption. All tests reveal this

MDakaDean July 1, 2009 at 11:37 am

I got the 33mpg EPA from the BMW website. and i got the 70mpg number from a video about the new prius.

trident3b July 2, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I like the american way of wearing seat belts though (under the arm and under the right breast), check out the girl in the passenger seat, in a smack she’ll fly out forward twisting to the right and changing the shape of her face against the door!

trident3b July 4, 2009 at 5:21 pm

UnSaintLike, you’re right re fuel consumption re diesels, yep, for sure! But wait till the full hybrids come out. Then nothing will touch them. New powerful electric motors will have FAR more power and have FULL torque at every speed and every RPM unlike IC engines that have to develop power by revving.

trident3b July 8, 2009 at 2:16 am

no, I disagree with your numbers entirely. It is simply wrong to assume the Prius is better on fuel than a diesel. No way. They conducted tests in germany comparing all the various primary movers. The prius used more fuel than a Golf diesel. What the mild hybrid WILL do is put out a little less CO2, but NOT more fuel effecient. Toyota and Honda make MILD hybrids, the prime mover is still a large IC engine. Mild hybrids are useless. But the new full hybrids will be FAR better than anything now.

MDakaDean July 10, 2009 at 6:47 am

Hybrids arent cheap too make, their production value is pretty high, and toyota/honda are the most dominating carmakers

think like, if their is a shortage of oil supply, the demand would be high, and so will the price.

you get 33 MPG, with a regular diesel car (BMW), with a hybrid(prius) you get up to 70mpg.

buying a hybrid alone would save some money in your pocket, you save almost 5,000 dollars every 5 years, the money you use for gas, you can save for something. Fuel efficiency

trident3b July 13, 2009 at 5:37 am

Prius cars etc are MILD hybrids, a hybrid principle that is, well, shite. All these mild hybrids still have large IC engines and an almost useless electric motor. It’s a marketing gag, otherwise Merc, BMW, VW etc would have them too, but didn’t as crap. They stuck to diesels. Next gen FULL hybrids with small IC engines acting as generators (still kick out CO2, but FAR less) powering very powerful electric motors will work. Yep, plugins use grid power which burnt something. Fossil or Atomic.
